    Biomimetics Introduction

    Dr. Filipe Natálio lectures about "The Art and Science of Biomimetics" at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle.

  • February 2014

    Art/Science Workshop Pilot

    Dr. Filipe Natálio and Prof. Aart van Bezooijen organize a student workshop titled "Exploring Future Materials" during the "Herbstsession" workshop week.

    Lecture by Pinar Yoldas

    We invite cross-disciplinary artist and researcher Pinar Yoldas to lecture about her work featuring the latest project "An Ecosystem of Excess" which envisions a future with post-human life forms.

    Cotton⁻⁹ Awarded

    Dr. Natálio's research and future applications of Nanocotton (cotton enriched with nanoparticles) are demonstrated in an Imagefilm and is awarded with the 2nd prize at the Nanospots Short Film Festival.

    Mushroom Cultivation Workshop

    Biotechnologist Antoni Gandia is invited to host a three-day workshop with a dozen art and science students on the cultivation of mushrooms. You can read more about it in the DIE WELT newspaper.

    We invited designer Julia Lohmann to support the "Department of Seaweed". An inspiring lecture and a two-day workshop brought together young artists, designers and scientists exchanging ideas and sharing knowledge for the love of seaweed.

Dr. Filipe Natálio is a chemist with a passion for biomimetics currently working at the Weizmann Institute of Science (Israel). Prof. Aart van Bezooijen is responsible for the Burg Material Collection, a physical library of materials and technologies at the Burg University of Art and Design Halle (Germany). This Portuguese–Dutch collaboration inspires and enables young students to explore and understand alternative materials and methods that contribute to a more sustainable future.
